As of today, there are 14 confirmed cases of Covid-19 infection in the NBA. They include superstars, all-stars and important role players for their respective teams. Some of these are part of the organization and not necessarily players. Our previous article regarding Hollywood celebrities who got infected and tested positive for Corona Virus or CoVid-19. Below are the list of NBA players/celebrities and staff who have contracted CoVid-19.

Rudy Gobert first tested positive for covid-19

Rudy Gobert was the first NBA player to test positive for the virus. Teammate Donovan Mitchell also announced that he had contracted the virus a few days after. It was Gobert’s announcement that actually triggered the suspension of the rest of the NBA season.

Christian Wood Of the Detroit Pistons

Christian Wood, the up and coming star of the Detroit Pistons, announced his own Covid-19 infection afterward. The Detroit Pistons recently announced that Woods has been given a clean bill of health and has fully recovered from the virus.

The 2-time Finals MVP Kevin Durant

Afterward, four Brooklyn Nets players, including former MVP and 2-time Finals MVP Kevin Durant were also diagnosed with the virus. Durant has not played at all this season, choosing to rehab,  and was looking to bounce back from his achilles tendon injury suffered in last year’s finals.

The next day it was announced that two people from the Lakers organization had contracted the virus as well. The Denver Nuggets announced one member of the organization was infected by their team. The Philadelphia Sixers had three people in their organization that had the virus. The Boston Celtics Marcus Smart then announced his own infection over social media.

When Marcus Smart was tested, he was asymptomatic, meaning he was not exhibiting symptoms of the virus, but all the Boston Celtics players were tested because they played Gobert and the Utah Jazz team a few weeks before Gobert tested positive.

That’s a total of 14 players from the NBA who are now known to have contracted the Covid-19 virus. Most recently superstar Karl Anthony Towns of Minnesota announced that her mother is now in a coma induced by the virus as well.

People have commented that the infected stars could actually be put together and make a championship-caliber team. That would be Marcus Smart (All-Defense Team)and Donovan Mitchell (All-Star and All-Rookie Team) at guard. Kevin Durant (MVP, 2x Finals MVP) and Christian Wood (averaging over 20 points and 9 rebounds per game in Feb-March) at forward, and Rudy Gobert (Defensive Player of the Year) manning the center spot.

Gobert was also recently in the news for reporting that he has a loss of smell and taste during his infection. He then posted on Twitter on March 23, “Just to give you guys an update, loss of smell and taste is definitely one of the symptoms, haven’t been able to smell anything for the last 4 days. Anyone experiencing the same thing?”

There has been good news as well. The whole Oklahoma City Thunder team that was tested and all tested negative for the virus. They were the last team that Utah (almost) played with and were in the arena when that game was canceled.
